Hollywood’s stoners have always managed to put together legendary, if not ridiculous, light-hearted romps based around their stupidity as stoners. Since the 1990s these buddy films have been in production, and every couple of years a new one seems hit the screens and hit us with a plume of humorous smoke in the process.
We here at Vapes Online are big fans of the stoner buddy film, and would like to share our collection of favourites. Bust out the vape, grab yourself a feed and chuck on one of these legendary comedies for a night of vaping pleasure.
Pineapple Express: What would this list be without one of the greatest comedies, let alone stoner comedies, of all time? The story of the mismatched partnership between subpoena serving stoner Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) and his airheaded dealer Saul (James Franco) became an instant classic for its plotline as much as its hilarious stoner jokes.
Favourite quote: “This is like if that Blue Oyster shit met that Afghan Kush I had – and they had a baby. And then, meanwhile, that crazy Northern Light stuff I had and the Super Red Espresso Snowflake met and had a baby. And by some miracle, those two babies met and fucked – this would the shit that they birthed.”
Dude, Where’s My Car: Yes, of course everybody knows this film is absolutely ridiculous but, hey, it’s a bit of a classic with some unforgettable lines. Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott play two original slackers who wake up one morning, hungover, wanting to go and get a feed. Madness ensues when they come out the front of the house only to find one of their cars has gone missing. They meet aliens, Chinese tailors, stoner-bashing bullies, among others, and all in the name of locating their shitbox car.
Favourite quote: “Quick! To my parents’ minivan!”
The Big Lebowski: Any film that has earnt such a cult status that they hold an annual festival in its honour must be pretty good, right? Yes, right, and The Big Lebowski is no exception. Jeff Bridges plays one of history’s favourite stoners The Dude, AKA Jeffrey Lebowski. He and his cronys (John Goodman and Steve Buscemi) are pulled into the bizarre depths of LA’s underworld after the wife of a millionaire who shares the same name as Lebowski ends up owing a whole lot of money. A classic for all occasions but probably one of the most artistic of all stoner films.
Favourite quote: “That rug really tied the room together.”
